megalodons were the largest predators in the history of the planet. these sharks roamed the planet for nearly 17 million years, appearing around 20 million years ago, and becoming extinct circa 3 million years ago. they are estimated to have grown as big as over 20 metres. megalodons mainly preyed on whales, larger fish and other sharks. since their body was made almost entirely of cartilage, it is extremely rare to find any of their fossils other than their teeth, from which they had almost 300 at a time. these teeth have fossilized outstandingly well. they can be identified by a v-shape on the enamel (called bourlette). the teeth i used on these necklaces came from juvenile megalodons
